In the early days of my career I worked as a speech pathologist for 3 years with Dallas ISD where I served as a bilingual therapist to children 5-21 years of age in South Oak Cliff and the West Dallas Housing Projects. I can remember having the desire back then to perform treatment that was more pragmatic and useful for real life situations. I went on to work in Richardson ISD and Plano ISD as a bilingual consultant, at the same time working part time in a private practice setting. I have served as a private speech pathologist in my own practice since 1993 and have loved every minute of coming to work. I hold a certificate of clinical competence by the American Speech and Hearing Association and a license by the State of Texas.

Personal Philosophy
I wanted to be a speech language pathologist ever since I was 10. That passion has ensued up to today. I believe play is the ultimate foundation blocks and highway for kids to develop and learn language and comprehension skills. Children do not believe they are working when they are having fun. At the same time, I am structuring their session with their goals in mind whether it be to acquire new vocabulary, grammar, syntax or semantics. I believe in a learner centered style approach that encourages knowledge acquisition and problem solving through social interactions. Ultimately, I want to connect with the child in a social and meaningful way that will help them far beyond the therapy room with peers and adults familiar or unfamiliar in different settings. The use of play has profound effects on being able to role play and carry over their understanding to better interact with peers, particularly with children of any age who experience social anxiety or are on the autism spectrum.
I have worked for over 30 years in this field and I realized early on that for kids to improve and therapy to be effective, parents are my most important tool. I love parents to be involved in every therapy session, participating and facilitating alongside me so they can see their child’s accomplishments unfold before their eyes and know they had a hand in it. Even with the adults I serve who are on the spectrum, I encourage their parents to be an integral part in helping their young adult child to flourish and personally launch themselves into their own independence.
